Steve Coad

Wedding, Sports, Portrait and Fine Art Photographer

Photography is a passion for me, that is true, but the best part of my job is the people I meet.  Many photographers I know avoid photographing weddings and ask me why I would want to deal with all those people.  That is easy to answer, I do it because of "all those people".  This is so much better than taking photos of a beautiful landscape (don't get me wrong, I love landscape photography) because the people have stories, they have emotion, they are excited, they are nervous.  These are all things that I love to experience and help them through.  This is the most special day to that point of most peoples lives, it is an honor to be included.

Why would you want to invite me to your wedding as your photographer?  First and foremost we will have fun, my goal is to make this a relaxed and fun experience for you.  We don't want you to have technically great but static photos, we want you smiling and laughing in your photos.  Your album should reflect not only the beauty of your day, it should reflect the joy.  Nothing is more interesting than people.  My photographic journey began as a young child watching my grandmother in the darkroom developing and printing large format and 35mm film.  The first time I saw her perform her alchemy of turning white paper into a beautiful photograph I was hooked.  It truly was like turning lead to gold.  Digital has changed photography, has brought it to the masses but I still see it as an art.  As such I am constantly experimenting with new things from digital infrared images to making real silver halide prints for clients who want something special, something beyond digital.  Your wedding will of course be photographed with state of the art full frame digital equipment, but in addition some of your special photos will be taken on my Phase One medium format digital camera system which has colors not obtainable with any Canon or Nikon camera, or if you choose we will also use medium format film for real black and white photographs or softer more beautiful colors.  And if you are a little adventurous, maybe like to break the rules a little bit, we can use digital infrared equipment for that fairy tale look that will make your friends ask "how did you do that?"

Other than photography my passions are hiking, biking, football and above all else watching and photographing my daughter competing in dance competitions all over the east coast.

In addition to photographing weddings I am a game day photographer for North Carolina State University football, I photograph classical and jazz dancers dozens of times a year, take hundreds of portraits annually and sell hundreds of prints world wide.  If you have any questions about why I would be a good fit for your photography, my work or would just like to discuss photography please don't hesitate to contact me.  Thank you, Steve.
